Malahaid
castle When we got off the bus at Malahaid the bus driver told us to enter through the gates and follow the path that was there. We went through the gates and we arrived in a very huge castle garden, but I think the most suitable name is to call it a park.. A tremendous amount of trees and plants, lots
of flowers we didn't recognise. Unfortunately the weather didn't give the garden much
justice you couldn't see all the colours, but we have a very good imagination and realised
it would probably be very beautiful. Malahaid castle is a castle that really is to my taste, built during the 12th century, with small beautiful rooms and a lot of history. There is also an old church that belongs to the castle and a graveyard (for some reason I love old graveyards) and in this weather it created a very nice mood. I tried to capture it on camera, but I didn't succeed that well, but I think the picture turned out okay. So have a look at Malahaids churchyard. When the rain continued to pour down we decided to have something to eat at the castle. The restaurant was situated at the castle's old armoury, where the soldiers had their quarters in the old days, a small picturesque room. The prices were very close to the Swedish, so if you didn't want to get ruined one had to be careful with what you had. But there were so many delicious things.....
When we thought we had been long enough at
Malahaid, mostly waiting for the rain to stop (it never did), we decided to leave and walk
back to the road to take a bus back to Dublin. |
